Project Details

Goal: Create a prototype of a tool that is an engaging way for sales people to learn about the suite of tools and also for customers to see how all the tools work together.

My Responsibilities: Visual design, interaction design, user research, personas, copywriting.

The Problem

The product team needed a quicker, more interesting way for salespeople to learn about a suite of tools and their value other than reading through piles of product documentation. Salespeople also needed an engaging way to show that value to customers.

A UX Architect and I worked together to plan the research, do interviews, and do the copywriting.

We decided to tell a story of a small business owner and his employees and how the suite of tools would benefit them. This would help the sellers and customers learn about the products more easily, as people are more engaged and remember things better when listening to a story.

The Process

We interviewed stakeholders and product owners to form a set of proto-personas of AT&T’s Mobile Resource Management customers.

We created journey maps to help us understand how customers learn about and use the products.

I also created the visuals for the personas and journey maps.

We then wrote stories for what a “day in the life” would be like for a small business owner and two of his employees while they used each of the tools in the suite.

The Outcome

I designed the flow and the visual elements for a lo-fi prototype that showed what a website or presentation could look like to tell these stories. This could also be stored locally and then shown to a customer from a laptop or iPad.

The “Day in the Life Click Through” as it was called was well received by the Product Owner. I was only engaged on the project through this point so I never got to see if it was actually built and used by the salespeople or what they thought of it.

I wish I had been involved in the project longer so that I could have gotten some interviews with the salespeople and customers to receive some valuable user feedback.

Let’s create great products together.
